Personal muay thai training in Mauritius answers a need a group class cannot always cover: a session during which the coach looks at nobody but you. Team Boom runs one-to-one sessions on Casse Ghoon Road, Pointe aux Canonniers, along the coast from Grand Baie, alongside its group classes. A session costs Rs 1,500, and everything else — day, time, content — is agreed by message beforehand.
Who one-to-one sessions are for
- Beginners who would rather start alone. Walking into a room full of people who already know what a teep is puts some people off for good. A private session removes the audience: you learn the stance, the guard and the first strikes at your own pace, then join group B with something already in your hands.
- Fighters and advanced members. When the problem is specific — a kick that loses balance, a guard that drops, a clinch position that never works — one session alone with the coach is worth several group classes.
- Visitors short on time. If your stay does not land on a Monday, a Wednesday or a Friday, a private session is still the way to train.
- Impossible schedules. Shift work, evening commitments, children to put to bed: the group slots are fixed, private sessions are arranged.
What a private session adds
In a group class the coach divides an hour between everyone in the room. That works — most people learn perfectly well that way, and training with others is half the pleasure of the sport. But corrections arrive in waves, and a movement repeated wrongly can survive several weeks before it gets caught.
One to one, the correction is immediate and repeated until the movement changes. You also choose the content: nothing but clinch, nothing but low kicks, or a whole session of pads if what you need is conditioning under a technical eye. And there is nobody to wait for: the coach holds the pads himself.
There is also the question of pace. In a class you follow the group: when the coach moves on to the next exercise, you move on too, whether or not the previous one worked. Alone, you stay on a movement until it is right, and you stop when it is. A beginner gets to ask the questions they would not ask in front of fifteen people; an experienced member gets to spend a whole session on a detail that would never justify holding up a class.
How it combines with the group classes
The two are not alternatives. The group gives you volume, partners of different sizes and the rhythm of a room that is working; the private session is where you fix what the volume exposed. Most people who use both do it in the same order: one or two private sessions to start, or to unblock something specific, then the regular Monday, Wednesday and Friday classes — group A at 5:45 pm for advanced members and the competition team, group B at 7:00 pm for beginners and intermediates.
Whichever route you take, the club rule holds: no sparring during the first month. A private session is not a shortcut around it, it is a way of arriving at live work with cleaner technique. Gloves are lent for your first sessions.
Sessions during a stay in the north
Visitors are the most frequent users of one-to-one training, for an obvious reason: a week in Grand Baie contains at most three group evenings, and holidays rarely line up with them. Writing before you arrive with your dates and your level is the whole procedure — the holiday training page covers the rest, including what to pack and what the heat does to a first session.
If you already train elsewhere and want to hold your level while you are here, say so: where you train, for how long, what you are working on at the moment. It saves losing a session to sizing each other up.
Booking a session
There is no online booking and no form to fill in: a private session is arranged directly with the club. Send a WhatsApp message to +230 5981 9849 saying who you are, what level you are at and what you want to work on, and the coach will answer with what is possible. The rate is Rs 1,500 per session; the group rates and the calculator are on the pricing page. If you have never trained at all, the first-class guide describes what an hour of muay thai actually contains.
